Ahead of the game as always, this week’s worksheet – due to be published the day before 14 February – is all about Valentine’s Day. Students will read the viewpoint of a someone who was involved in the struggle against apartheid and what it was like to be in love during those times. And then there is the Woolies’ Valentine’s Day advertisement that did not have much air-time. Social media outrage caused it to be withdrawn because of gender stereotyping.

Suitable for Grades 11 and 12, the worksheet will generate lots of talk in the classroom and of course, students will also reap the benefits of practising comprehension and grammar skills.

Last week’s Grade 8 worksheet focused on a young 16-year-old climate change activist from Sweden who also has Asperger’s syndrome. And Grade 7s were treated to a wonderful kaleidoscope of activities – reading, poetry, word searches and comprehension work – all on texts related to the theme of reading.
